I lived close to the edge of a big hill, and there was a cobble-stoned street that led right down to the middle of down town Pittsburg. (George laughs) That’s a lot of questions but I think I understand where you’re coming from. Who and what were your influences and how do you recall those early preteen days, initially performing with a ukulele and progressing to playing guitar and singing on the street corners? You were born on the 22nd March 1943 in Pittsburg. So sit back relax and enjoy this ‘In Flight’ conversation between George ‘Bad’ Benson and I. Unique and always entertaining ‘On Broadway’ or ‘Off Broadway’ George Benson has been ‘Doin’ The Thing’ for sixty-five years as a recording artist with a who’s who’s list of world renowned entertainers who have counselled his ’20/20’ visionary skills. With his innate ‘Nature Boy’ gifts and skills his journey from being a singer first to becoming an established and in demand session guitarist, and eventually being recognised as an all-round artist, is an ‘Affirmation’ of his destiny. Growing up in Pittsburg ‘Little’ Georgie Benson became a pre teen R&B singing and guitar playing sensation in those rock and roll years circa 1954. I’m thinking oh, oh Miles (Davis) is going to beat me up about destroying his song (‘So What’), and he said, “Man, I love what you did to my song man, you tore it up.” and I let out a sigh of relief.
